Private Vocal Study
Voice Lessons at Wake Forest
The Department of Music offers individual instruction in voice. Students can receive course credit for weekly lessons of 30 minutes (MSC 181) or 60 minutes (MSC 182) and individual instruction for the vocal performance music major (MSC 282). Lessons are available to students of all levels, though auditions may be required for registration.
Registration for individual instruction takes place at the beginning of each semester. Interested students should stop by the Department of Music office (Scales Fine Arts Center, M309) or contact the appropriate instructors for more information. Please visit our Individual Instruction page for more information on faculty and instruction offerings.
First-time registrants for voice will need to interview or audition (depending on level of experience) at the start of each semester. Sign-ups for auditions will be posted on the Current Ensemble/Lesson Info. page on the Department of Music website.
Like many liberal arts universities, Wake Forest assesses an additional individual instruction fee of $350 per semester for 30 minute weekly lessons (MSC 181) and $700 per semester for 60 minute weekly lessons (MSC 182) and music major courses for vocal performance (MSC 282). These fees are billed to a student’s account by Financial Services. Need-based scholarships are available.
If you are a beginning student in voice, you also have the option to register for class instruction in those areas (Class Voice MSC 163 A). There is no additional fee for Class Voice.
A class in Theatrical Singing with a focus on musical theatre is also available (MSC 164 A).
Many students who participate in the Wake Forest Choirs also take individual instruction in voice with the Department of Music’s faculty. From collaboration with the Department of Theatre and Dance for our biannual musical, to the Giles-Harris Music Competitions, students who study voice privately find that their skill, confidence, and artistry grows significantly through individual instruction and practical application of that study through choral participation.
